For All the Good That Did!

Ah, yes...
I remember the song well!

"Jesus loves me,
this I know,
for some heavily-edited
thousands-of-years-old
historically-inaccurate document
tells me so, amidst
some very contradictory
thought along those lines
as well.
Also, because I
really really really
need it to be true."

Even if Jesus the Son of man were
unconditionally loving, it's
too bad none of his 'followers' choose to
 adhere to that. Remotely.

Although, I guess since he draws in such
a contentious bunch of assholes to
call on his name, it's pretty
fortuitous that he's so 'unconditionally'
loving.

Ain't love grand!??!

or follows!

Get it Straight...(well, you know)...

And that's not even considering;

*Teachers holding prayers before lunch in schools (NOT moments of silence)

*School books that reflect religious-based ignorance of history and science

*Ten Commandments posted in county, state, and federal buildings

*Voting held at churches and religious buildings for elections

*Using the Bible for swearing in folks in court

*Prayer before sporting events and other secular public events

*POLITICKING FROM PULPIT: BULLYING PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND
CHURCH-MEMBERS: PROMOTING POLITICAL AGENDAS TO MEMBERS
    'ON BEHALF OF' THE 'DIVINE'

*Phone banks and collections for political use on church grounds, with church money

*Using emotional influence and terrorism  and promises to get favors, funds, and
    attack enemies

*Back-room deals

*Tax-exempt status while not maintaining separation of church and state

*Taking federal funds for running 'charities' and institutions' while promoting
discrimination tactics and policies in said agencies

*Terrorizing and frightening children to induct them into their cults (child abuse)

*Engaging in and Covering up sexual rape of children, usually systematically

*Religious-based colleges and high schools allowed to promote religious bias

*Using social injustice and fear tactics to raise huge funds

*Crying poor-mouth over 'victimization' where none exists; using falsehoods
   to rally support and sympathy

*Blackmailing ('boycotting') businesses to have them subscribe to their beliefs

..and many, many more.

These bullshit traditions and expectations are so firmly entrenched in daily life,
most never question them, and when they do they are labeled unholy, unpatriotic,
heathens, blasphemers, etc., as if they were the problem for pointing out the
incorrect behavior of the believers (and the institutions that cater to them.)

AND STILL, these folks aren't happy until they control everything.

Ultimate freedom; owing and bowing to none (since they make up their weird
    interpretations of their fictional tome)

A sense of privilege, ego and entitlement thanks to their delusion over being
an ordained rep of their Big Kahuna, which evidently allows them to go ape-shit
crazy and feel they are no longer bound by human laws, decency, truths, or
sense.

Bible Rewrites...A-Gain!

In an ever-constant attempt to further modernize,
rewrite, and popularize the horrible old tome,
new publishers are putting a new spin on the
fables, new and old, to better reach a younger
and...well, here's a snippet of their efforts.

*******************************

"Ooh, I done TOLD y'all not to come
up in here with all that loud carrying-on
and nastiness!
Get ta stepping, I say!
You ain't gots to go home, but ya
got to get the hell up outta here!"

***

"Grrrrlll, pleez!
You so tired!
You so old!
Why you don't gets you a new game?
This one all played out.
You a played out trick.
I wish somebody would crucify me...
it'd be less painful than
puttin' up wit' yo' bizness!"

Impositions

Religion's stranglehold on American culture is so in depth
that it sneaks into everything, insidiously and effortlessly,
like the evil snake it warns of in the Judeo Bible.

The court-mandated Alcoholics Anonymous is nothing
more than a breeding ground for Christian basis and
indoctrination of a whole subset of hurting and scared
people.

Likewise, other 'recovery groups'  such as Celebrate
Recovery are forthright in their efforts to promote their
brand of preachy Christianity as a cure-all from everything
from pornography addiction to alcoholism to 'helping people'
'overcome' homosexuality. (No regulation exists on them.)

There are "Pray Away the Gay" clinics that masquerade as
actual scientific endeavors, blatantly hurting and maiming
thousands (and likely millions since their inception) utilizing
the excessive leeway given to all endeavors of a religious
sort.

What would normally be abhorrent, immoral, and illegal is
given carte blanche when the idea of 'god' is invoked.

Imposition of religion occurs in every corner of American
society, from ball games to classrooms to court rooms, all
while the indoctrinated and privileged 'believers' cry foul
and victim.

(At the local school system I worked at, Bible quotes were
freely plastered in the hallways, every room had a plaque
with a waving flag and an emboldened exertion about the
adding of "One nation, under god" being added to the
Pledge of Allegiance --never mind that it was only added
58 years ago by a bill, and teachers routinely demanded that
children in their classes say a Christian-based prayer with
them before going to lunch.

There were also always ample opportunities for god, Jesus,
and other references to church and its teachings to be brought
up during every story being read, every share, every lesson.
So much for separation of church and state.)

Even our money is tainted with the presumptuous stain of
religious influence.

But the idea of religion being 'legitimized' by supposedly scientific
persons acting within the psychological and health professional
communities, utilizing their training only to proffer their religious
agenda...that's what takes the cake.

It's baloney hiding behind the front of medicine.
It's hocus pocus, superstition, and hooey.

It's personal wish and belief filling in for facts, reason, and
professionalism.

Folks can pretend that religion has meaningful cultural significance
until the cows come home, but it won't make it so. It is a
backwardness that eats away at all progressiveness, culture,
and personal responsibility within society.
